Dieu Du Ciel, Rigor Mortis, Quadrupel, Beer Geek Review 246

10.5% alc./vol.
341 ml (11.5 fl.oz.)

Strong brown ale inspired by the beer brewed by Belgian Trappist monks. Very little bitterness, this beer has intense malty and sweet flavours, mixed with the taste of chocolate and caramel. It presents complex red fruit and spice flavours due to the type of yeast that is used during the brewing process. This beer is at its best only after it has aged for six months. The Rigor Mortis are complex beers designed and brewed with patience and care in the tradition of the great Belgian Abbey beers.

Rigor Mortis Abt is brewed only once a year, and is sold in January until stocks last.

The Rigor Mortis ABT was born in our Montreal brewpub in August 2001

Samuel Smith’s Brewing, Organic Chocolate Stout, Beer Geek Review 245

ABV: 5.0% – OG: 1.059 – IBU: 28

Innovators in Certified Organic beers, Samuel Smith began to ship the first organic beers to the US in the mid-1990s. Organic Cider and Organic fruit beers followed starting in 2007, and after many months of test brews & intensive tasting Organic Chocolate Stout was released in September, 2012. UK Soil Association and USDA Certified Organic.
A note about the label: the term “Theobroma cacao” that appears on the label is the scientific name for the cacao tree, and the illustration is of the pod from this tree, source of chocolate.

Lakefront Brewing Wisconsinite Wheat Ale, Beer Geek Review 244

4.4% ABV 9.5 IBU’s

Wisconsinite: the most Wisconsin beer ever! Made with 100% Wisconsin-grown malted barley, wheat, and hops, including a unique, first-of-its-kind, never before fermented, indigenous Wisconsin yeast strain. It pours a hazy, unfiltered, straw color with a fine white head. The mild clove, banana, and citrus aromas from the Wisconsin yeast go well with the malty sweetness and fresh baked wheat bread flavors. With its light body, lively effervescence, and 4.4% ABV, Wisconsinite is a refreshing summer session beer.

Wisconsinite is great with lighter, summer fare: green salad, seafood salad, smoked salmon, lemon pepper chicken, and shrimp or fish tacos

Lakefront Brewing, Rendezvous Bier De Garde, Beer Geek Review 243

7.2% ABV 22 IBU’s

A Biere De Garde—literally, “a beer to keep”—is a style conceived in the hills of Northern France. This traditional farmhouse ale is brewed with a special French ale yeast, giving it a subtle, yet delightful ester fruitiness. Ample amounts of 2-row malt give Rendezvous a luscious, full body. Generous amounts of Munich malts are added for additional sweetness and give Rendezvous an impassioned red hue. Saaz and Mt. Hood hops are added for a mild bitterness and clean finish. Robust, smooth, and surprisingly refreshing, the effect on your palate is an intense, fleeting episode: a rendezvous.

Lakefront Brewing IBA (Imperial Black Ale), Beer Geek Review 242

6.7% abv, 50 IBU’s

One day, a mysterious, tattered vessel arrived. The ship was desolate, save for its cargo. A keg was tapped. Something else had changed, this was no longer a pale ale.
Okay, the story is fake, but we took all the stuff people love about IPAs and gave this beer plenty of crystal and dark roasted malts. This dark, coffee-colored beer pours a rocky, light tan head that leaves plenty of lacing on your glass.
The hoppy pine and floral aromas ready your palate for an immediate bitterness. Instead, the sweet, caramely crystal malts blitz through, followed immediately by a sharp piney flavor from the Zeus and Cascade hops. The smooth body leaves a long-lasting hoppy finish.

Lakefront Brewing, 25th Anniversary Imperial Stout, Beer Geek Review 241

http://www.lakefrontbrewery.com/beer/bombers/25th-anniversary-series/imperial-stout

We only turn 25 once, and to celebrate, we brewed a rich imperial stout with cocoa nibs, vanilla beans, and cherry purée. First of four in our series, it pours a deep, dark black with a mocha brown head that gradually retreats to the edges of the glass. A strong chocolate aroma arises, followed by sweet malt and mild tart cherry. The full, dense mouthfeel yields a malty sweetness followed by chocolate, cherry, and vanilla flavors, then finishes with a slight alcohol warmth, leaving roasted malt and chocolate notes until the next sip.
Enjoy this beer with rich, chocolatey desserts: chocolate cheese cake, cherry chocolate devils food cake, or just a chunk of dark chocolate.
