Samuel Smith’s Brewing, Oatmeal Stout, Craft Beer Review 257

Brewed with well water (the original well at the Old Brewery, sunk in 1758, is still in use, with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground); fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’ to create an almost opaque, wonderfully silky and smooth textured ale with a complex medium dry palate and bittersweet finish.

Tadcaster, England

5% ABV

New Belgium Brewing, Spring Blonde Ale, Craft Beer Review 256

Blondes are a favorite style among New Belgium employee-owners who have celebrated their 5-year anniversary with a spring trip to Belgium. These travels inspired our Spring Blonde and brought some old Belgium to New Belgium. Brewed with pale and Munich malts, this golden ale pours bright copper and holds a strong, white head aloft. A nose of lemon peel, pepper, and fresh baked bread entice a sipping. Spring Blonde drinks malty, sweet and wonderful. And the easy Nugget hopping pedals towards a dry, lightly bitter finish. Shed that coat, grab some bikes, and crack some beers.

Stone Brewing, Smoked Vanilla Porter, Craft Beer Geek Review #254

  • ALC/VOL: 5.9%
  • IBUS: 53

In 2006, almost exactly 10 years after we first released Stone Smoked Porter, Stone Small Batch Brewer Laura Ulrich had a brilliant idea: What if she added whole Madagascar vanilla beans to a small batch of the finished beer? And voilá, Stone Smoked Porter with Vanilla Bean was born! It was an instant hit, as the resulting flavor combinations—rich vanilla melding with the malty, chocolatey, coffee-like characteristics of the beer—were practically made for each other. Originally available only as an occasional growler fill or on tap all-too-briefly at special events or in our restaurant, this exquisite creation was released in a single bottle run for the first time in 2012, much to the delight of its many fans…who instantly began clamoring for more. Your voices have been heard.

Swamp Head, Wild Night, Honey Cream Ale, Beer Geek Review #253

Along the rivers, in the fields, and through the forests of Florida, thousands of bees are hard at work, producing some of the sweetest honey in the world. We like to think they’re proud that all of their hard work has ended up in our award winning honey cream ale.

Wild Night is light and delicate, yet bursting with flavor. We add local honey to a traditional cream ale, and a touch of hops to update this American classic. Enjoyable anytime you’re thirsting for a crisp, clean beer, our honey cream ale is what light beer should bee!

Cigar City Brewing, Invasion Pale Ale, Craft Beer Geek Video Review 249

  • ABV: 5%
  • OG: 12.4
  • IBU: 36
  • SRM: 6

Gold in color, Invasion Pale Ale is CCB’s rendition of a sessionable hoppy ale. The aroma is quite tropical and offers suggestions of peach, mango, lime and papaya. Upon further exploration, Invasion has a light caramel malt character laced with a slight breadiness and the finish relinquishes a bounty of tropical and citrus hop flavor and bitterness.

Ballast Point Brewing, Black Marlin Porter, Craft Beer Geek Video Review 248

My review of Ballast Point Brewing’s, Black Marlin Porter. A Porter from San Diego, California
ABV 6% IBU’s 42

A hoppy twist on the classic English Porter.
Our Black Marlin Porter stands out in a town known primarily for its IPA’s. We craft it from a unique blend of roasted and crystallized malts that give it a smooth, chocolaty, caramel profile. Then toss in a healthy dose of American hops to serve up full-bodied flavor worthy of its San Diego roots.
