Fat Head’s Brewing to pull out of Florida in 2017

homepagecoloredcrown-u2244

Fat Heads Brewing of Middleburg Heights, Ohio has sadly announced today that it will be quitting its distribution in Florida in 2017. The last shipments will take place in January 2017 and should be exhausted by February. Fat Head’s Beer is distributed in Florida by Cavalier Distributing. This decision was made in order to focus more on its core home area of Ohio and Pennsylvania said Bill Wetmore, Head of Sales and Marketing for Fat Heads Brewing.

While it will be sad to see yet another brewery stop distribution to Florida I have seen this trend towards “Local” happening for a few years now.  While us here in Florida were a bit slower than the rest of the country when it comes to Craft Beer it seems like I see new Local Beer hitting our shelves on a frequent basis.  Even my small hometown of Gainesville has several craft breweries in operation.  I am a proud supporter of local craft beer no matter where you are.  It adds an extra bit of fun to seek out the local brewing scene while travelling.  It is generally the freshest, most economical, and most environmentally friendly product you can consume.

I Wish Fat Heads and it’s crew a happy future,  while a decision like this is tough I believe it was the right one.  Local is going to be a continuing trend in Craft Beer and the breweries that focus on doing the very best they can in their home market are going to be the ones that thrive.  Thank you for sharing your beer with us, Cheers!

About Fat Head’s — Opened in 1992 as Pittsburgh, PA’s premier craft beer bar and restaurant, Fat Head’s teamed up with head brewmaster Matt Cole in 2009 to create Fat Head’s Brewery & Saloon just outside of Cleveland, OH. In response to overwhelming demand, a production facility was opened in 2012. Fat Head’s Brewery distributes three core beers and a range of seasonal offerings throughout Ohio and Pennsylvania. Fat Head’s also operates a 300 seat brewpub in the heart of Portland, OR with plans to open new brewpubs in Canton, OH and Charlotte, NC by 2018.
